The importance of sleep
Sleep is important for your mental, emotional and physical health. As well as resting your mind, your muscles repair and rebuild while you’re asleep. This restoration leaves you with more lean muscle mass, which means you burn more calories all day and all night.
Good quality and adequate sleep:
- Reduces inflammation
- Reduces stress
- Improves your energy
- Improves your state of mind
- Improves your memory
However, many of us don’t get enough or good quality sleep. You need at least seven hours of sleep. And if like me, you have a sleep disorder, it can be a challenge.
An evening ritual helps me to fall asleep and stay asleep. I don’t drink caffeine after 3 pm; I eat my dinner, shower, turn off all electronic devices and go to bed. If I still struggle to fall asleep, I listen to the headspace app which you can download for free.
